Message from the Premier of Queensland

Queensland has come a long way over the past 150 years and we wouldn't be where we are today if it wasn't for Queensland's innovative business community.

The Queensland of 1859 was a hive of industry. Brisbane was a bustling port city as steam ships plied the Brisbane River with wool and sugar for our booming agricultural centres.

Today the State has been transformed into a centre of ideas, innovation and ingenuity. Queensland is leading the world in fields such as science, medicine, manufacturing and environmental technologies, just to name a few.

This year, the Premier of Queensland's Smart Business Awards recognise those iconic businesses that have helped shape our State over the past 150 years.

I invite all Queenslanders to nominate those businesses that have made a significant impact on our State.

Anna Bligh MP
Premier of Queensland and Minister for the Arts
